General Motors has issued a recall on approximately 49,000 of its vehicles. The recall impacts those who own a 2011-2015 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD or a GMC Sierra 3500HD equipped with dual fuel tanks.

The low fuel level sensor for the front fuel tank has the capacity to get stuck on these vehicles, which makes it easy for the driver to overfill the front tank. This, in turn, has the potential to trigger a fire.

Thankfully, GM has not yet received any reports from actual fires occurring due to this mechanical flaw. However, if you own one of these vehicles, gather more information about the recall so you can stay safe in your vehicle.

GM’s Response

The manufacturer has established a two-part procedure to notify owners of this important recall. Starting December 18th, GM will send a letter informing the owners of the recall. In February, the company will send a second letter to the owners, confirming when dealerships have secured repair parts to perform the necessary repairs to rectify the fuel tank flaw.
