2017 Genesis G80 sedan at Chicago Auto Show

It’s been nearly a year since the Genesis automotive brand broke off from its Hyundai parent line to establish its own premium identity. Over this past year, we’ve seen a couple Genesis models appear at American auto shows, such as the G80, G90, and some concept models for inspiration.

Finally, Genesis Motors is releasing specific details about what’s planned for the automaker’s brand-new lineup, including some initial pricing and how the buying experience will differ for Genesis customers.

2017 Genesis G80 Details Announced

What used to be known as the Hyundai Genesis is becoming the Genesis G80 for the 2017 model year. This mid-luxury sedan already had a level of refinement that set itself apart from Hyundai’s lineup, and that appeal is further enhanced with a slew of upgrades. The upcoming model will feature many semi-autonomous active safety features such as:

  • Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB)
  • Blind Spot Detection (BSD) with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA)
  • Lane Keep Assist (LKA) and Lane Departure Warning (LDW)

The 2017 Genesis G80 will be available with two engine options–3.8-liter V6 or 5.0-liter V8–and RWD or AWD capability. As of now, the officially announced MSRP of the G80 base model is $41,400, while the top-of-the-line trim variant of the G80 exceeds $54,000. Premium and Ultimate add-on packages are also available for added appeal.

Those are pretty appealing prices considering the competition Genesis is targeting, such as BMW and Audi.

Genesis Experience Will Enhance Vehicle Ownership

If you think that buying a Genesis G80 will be just like buying any other car, you’re in for a surprise. The recently-announced Genesis Experience buyer program intends its customers’ shopping and ownership experiences to be as “premium” as the brand’s vehicles.

This will include a mobile app specifically for Genesis customers, complimentary maintenance, collision assistance, valet and concierge services, virtual connected interfaces, and much more.

“The launch of the Genesis brand is an exciting time and opportunity to pioneer change and rethink luxury within the automotive space,” said Erwin Raphael, general manager of Genesis in America. “The ultimate luxury is time, and it is our goal to not only develop best-in-class products, but also create a stress-free ownership experience through thoughtful and personalized processes.”

If you’re ready to take the plunge and be one of the first Genesis G80 owners, look for the sedan to become available later this month.
