2016 Ford Focus RS action

If you have been patiently awaiting the arrival of the 2016 Ford Focus RS, there’s good news: Ford kicked off production on its 350-horsepower beast today at its plant in Saarlouis, Germany, meaning it is now oh so close to arriving in the United States for your driving pleasure.

Ford seems optimistic about the American prospects for the Focus RS after 2015 sales results saw a 9% year-over-year gain for the Focus ST and a 4% year-over-year gain for the Fiesta ST. Should the Focus RS perform as well in the US as we all hope it does, it could fuel the expansion of the RS lineup in the United States, which would likely include a Fiesta RS and could even include an Edge RS.

The 2016 Focus RS is one of three new Ford Performance models set to hit the United States this year. It will eventually be followed by the F-150 Raptor and the Ford GT supercar. Ford has said that it expects its performance vehicle lineup to include 12 vehicles by 2020, which means there are no fewer than five more vehicles to be revealed over the next several years.

In case you need a refresher: the 2016 Focus RS can do 0-62 in 4.7 seconds and is standard with Ford Performance All-Wheel Drive with Dynamic Torque Vectoring, which features selectable drive modes and launch control. In short, you need this.
