Renault-Nissan Promotes Gender Diversity Growth
Contrary to what the noble gentlemen (read: whiny, entitled misogynists) of #gamergate would like to have you believe, gender diversity is not a concept that is going anywhere anytime soon. The Renault-Nissan Alliance understands this, reporting that there was a rise in the percentage of women in management-level positions in 2013.
The percentage of women in management positions rose 1.4% at Renault (18.4% in 2013 from 17% in 2012), and the percentage at Nissan was up to 10.6% from 10.3% in 2012.
Two of Renault’s 10-member executive committee are of the fairer sex: Mouna Sepehri, Executive Vice President of the Office of the CEO; and Marie-Françoise Damesin, Executive Vice President for Human Resources.
While there is still a significant disparity between the number of men in leadership roles and the number of women in leadership roles, there are steps being taken to improve those numbers. Nissan has plans to increase the percentage of women in management positions to 14% globally by 2017.
“The Renault-Nissan Alliance remains committed to fully leveraging our global talent pool and closing the gender gap, and we are seeing incremental progress toward that goal every year,” said Renault-Nissan Chairman and CEO Carlos Ghosn. “Hiring and promoting women is the right thing to do for society – and for our business, because women decide or influence the overwhelming majority of car purchases globally.”
To promote its push for greater gender diversity in the automotive industry, Renault-Nissan will bring three public speakers to the Women’s Forum for the Economy and Society, which is running October 15-17 in Deauville, France. Speaking engagements include:
- 16: “What Women Want,” featuring Asako Hoshino, Corporate Vice President of Corporate Market Intelligence at Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., and Valerie Brusseau, Architecture Design & Trim and Chassis Manufacturing of New Vehicle Launches,at Renault SAS
- 17: “Abe’s Womenomics: Why it’s needed — and not just in Japan,” featuring Marie-Françoise Damesin, Executive Vice President, Human Resources at the Renault-Nissan Alliance
Nissan announced earlier this summer that it would begin opening a number of “Ladies First” dealerships—showrooms that provide female-friendly car buying experiences—in Japan.
