Report: 2020 Cadillac Escalade Set to Get Independent Rear Suspension

Cadillac is expected to release its new XT3 compact crossover for the 2019 model year

Will Cadillac offer the upcoming XT3 crossover with a plug-in hybrid powertrain?

Though it was last given a generational upgrade for the 2015 model year, the Cadillac Escalade hasn’t changed all that much from where it was a decade ago. Granted, that is not at all a bad thing, particularly when the Escalade remains in strong demand and pulls down exceptional average transaction prices for the Cadillac brand. But, all the same, it feels like it is high time for Cadillac’s big boat to learn a new trick or two. That time, it would seem, is drawing nigh.

According to Automobile, the Cadillac Escalade should finally incorporate an independent rear suspension or air suspension in its fifth generation when it launches for the 2020 model year. It is reported that the new Escalade was originally slated to drop within the first six months of 2019, but the late decision to alter the rear suspension will likely push its launch window back until late 2019 or early 2020.

Automobile also posits that the new Escalade will adopt the stylistic cues present in the Escala concept, presumably giving it a somewhat less rigid and box-like look. Additionally, it is suggested that the 2020 Escalade will get the most current version of Super Cruise technology, the Escala’s 4.2-liter twin-turbo DOHC V8 engine, a 10-speed automatic transmission, and possibly even a plug-in hybrid variant.

It’s also suggested that the 2020 Cadillac Escalade will cost between $78,000-$100,000, but speculating price at this point seems futile considering we may very well be trading with bottle caps by the start of the next decade.
