Report: Envision Coming to America as Chinese Import

It appears that, after a long period of almost no news, Buick will indeed move forward with its plans to sell the Envision crossover in the United States. Hurrah! That means that it will ultimately be imported to America from China. Well, that’s sure to make some people angry.
According to Automotive News, two sources with knowledge of GM/Buick’s plans informed them on Thursday that the automaker is close to pulling the trigger on exporting the China-made crossover to the United States, with sales possibly starting as soon as next spring.
The Wall Street Journal also reported that GM is looking to hit an annual sales goal of 30,000-40,000 units with the Envision. GM responded in kind to these reports by declining comment and calling the WSJ story “speculation.”
Ultimately, when GM does make the decision to import the Envision, it will become the second vehicle to be built in China and sold in America (behind the Volvo S60 Inscription). It will be quite significant nonetheless in that it will be the first vehicle from one of Detroit’s big three brands to be built in China. It has been suggested that Buick may ultimately shift most of the production of its US-sold models to China in the future.
