Report: Ford Might Make the Focus RS Even Crazier Somehow

Ford Performance has had a helluva 2015 thus far, from the reveal of arguably its three core models—the GT, F-150 Raptor, and Shelby GT350R Mustang—in January through to the unveiling of the 2016 Cobra Jet at SEMA. In between, it finally revealed the long-awaited 2016 Focus RS, which has already racked up a ton of pre-orders and has performance hounds salivating in both Europe and America.

Now, per a report from Autocar, it seems likely that Ford is looking to take the insanity that is the Focus RS just a step further by developing what could possibly become the fastest-accelerating hatchback in history.
To achieve this, Ford would make improvements to grip and the drivetrain and cut weight by adding carbon fiber-reinforced plastic panels, carbon fiber brakes, polycarbonate windows, and a stripped-down interior—possibly akin to what was done to make the GT350R lighter than the GT350. There’s even the possibility that the new RS would add a dual-clutch transmission, and oh good lord that would be something else.
The report states that an increase in power would be unlikely due to Ford already pushing its 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-pot to the limits, but it is hoping that these additional measures would enable the Focus RS to undercut the likes of the Mercedes-AMG A45 and Audi RS3, which hold 0-to-62 times of 4.2 seconds and 4.3 seconds, respectively.
