2018 Lincoln Black Label Navigator L Destination (4)

In just five years’ time, when referring to the vehicles in the Lincoln Motor Company lineup, you will be able to use the line “it’s electric (boogie-woogie-woogie)” about each one and not be wrong for doing so. Granted, you may get a few odd looks and a few unanswered calls for the weeks following this comment, but you’ll still have the satisfaction of knowing you’re right.

This is because three sources familiar with Lincoln’s future ambitions have told Automotive News that the brand will offer hybrid versions of every vehicle in its lineup by 2022 at the latest. One of those sources also suggested that Lincoln is contemplating at least one all-electric vehicle. This would serve the dual purpose of helping to fulfil Ford’s $4.5 billion electrification goal and bolster Lincoln’s standing in China where it will be required that a certain percentage of all sales are of electrified vehicles.

According to the sources, Lincoln will kickstart its electrification plans with the launch of the redesigned MKC and new Aviator crossover in 2019; both vehicles are expected to have plug-in hybrid variants. The redesigned Lincoln MKZ would follow suit with a plug-in hybrid in 2020, followed by the new MKX and Continental in 2022. Lincoln is also said to be poised to offer a conventional hybrid version of its new Navigator sometime in 2019.

Auto News postulates that these plans could be announced in earnest when Ford CEO Jim Hackett provides investors with an outlook on company strategy moving forward on October 3rd. Ford would not offer comment on future products, but if they did, they might suggest that the future is electric. Boogie-woogie-woogie.
