Report: New Lincoln Continental Will Be Built at Flat Rock
Lincoln confirmed earlier this year that it will be building a resurrected Lincoln Continental, but the automaker didn’t go much further into detail. Now we know from whence the revival of the popular namebadge will emanate.
According to Wall Street Journal, John Fleming, Ford’s chief of global manufacturing, disclosed on Wednesday that the Continental will be built at Flat Rock Assembly in Michigan. Flat Rock currently serves as Ford’s manufacturing base for the Mustang and Fusion. The announcement confirms a report from June.
Fleming did not offer any further details, adding only that he thinks “it will do very, very well.” Certainly, excitement has been mounting about the future of the Continental since a concept version was revealed at the New York Auto Show earlier this year.
The Continental is ostensibly confirmed as the replacement for the Lincoln MKS, which has been manufactured in Chicago. Last month, Ford President of the Americas Joe Hinrichs told the media at the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce that production on the MKS will conclude next year.
More details are assuredly forthcoming. Stay tuned.
