Cadillac may be years (and years and years and years) away from bringing a small crossover to the market to compete with the likes of Mercedes-Benz and BMW, but the next best thing they’ve got—the SRX—is still performing quite well. Since the second-gen model launches in 2010, it’s been Cadillac’s top annual seller in the United States, but it is noticeably showing its age when stacked up against revamped competition.

Fortunately, we likely won’t have to wait FOUR YEARS for a new SRX, as the folks at Motor Trend have it on good authority that the next-gen SRX will be arriving in April at the New York Auto Show. Of significant note is the fact that this new SRX will most likely not be an SRX at all; it will in all probability be the first model to adopt Cadillac’s new XT-something nomenclature for crossovers, with most landing on XT5 being the new name.

Rumors have it that the SRX/XT5 will be built on a new platform, use the same turbo-four engine found in the ATS and CTS (as well as an optional V6), and be built in Tennessee. Cadillac has been very Hans Schultz about the whole thing, so we likely won’t know anything for certain until we begin the walkup proper to New York.
