Report Rebuffs Reuss, Suggests Aluminum-Body CT6
Whether it looks like the Elmiraj or not, the 2016 Cadillac CT6 may have an aluminum body.
It’s not entirely clear at this stage whether the style of the 2016 Cadillac CT6 will more closely resemble the Elmiraj concept from which it descends or the “Art and Science” look of old, or if it’s simply going to blend these ideas up into something that’s juuust right. According to a report from Automobile, there is one thing about the CT6 that is pretty much a lock: it will feature an aluminum body.
Not naming sources, Automobile says that an aluminum body will make the CT6 more like a true competitor to the rival Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class, BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe, and Audi A7 notwithstanding whatever stylistic choices Cadillac makes.
While an aluminum-body CT6 seems like a logical progression—and will likely make the CT6 an ultra-smooth handler—it’s hard to imagine that Cadillac would do a complete 180 from comments made by GM executive VP of global product development, Mark Reuss, in October, when he said the CT6’s body structure is “not aluminum.” Unless Reuss was fibbing, that is, which would make his comments the first documented instance of a top GM official not being entirely forthcoming with the truth.
Reuss did say, however, that the CT6 will use aluminum, high-strength steel, magnesium, and carbon fiber in an effort to make the vehicle lighter and more efficient than the CTS despite being the larger vehicle of the two.
All about the CT6 will come to the light sometime later this year, likely at the New York Auto Show in April.
