It’s been rumored for a good little while now that Cadillac is planning to unveil a successor to the SRX crossover sometime during the calendar year, and likely under the new XT5 moniker. Given that the XT5 is expected to ride on the new Chi platform, it’s now being rumored that the XT5 will be available in two distinct wheelbases.

Motor Trend recently spotted a mule for the XT5 testing out in the wild, reporting that it is under the impression that the XT5 will be offered with two wheelbase lengths. MT believes that the shorter version is being called the C1UL and the longer version is being called the C1ULS. A longer wheelbase option would serve to make the SRX a particularly appealing option in China, where customer appetites are decidedly geared toward vehicles with stretched proportions.

It’s anticipated that the 3.6-liter V6 that powers the current SRX will carry over into the XT5 with a few minor performance tweaks, and Cadillac may very well have other options—including a turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 and a plug-in hybrid powertrain—in the works.

Again, nothing is confirmed, and we’ll likely have to wait at least until New York until anything is made official.
