For those whose interests were piqued after the official sketches of the redesigned Hyundai Tucson were revealed two weeks ago, Hyundai has delivered its surprise early.

No longer will we have to wait for the Geneva Motor Show in March to see the production model of the 2016 Tucson. Instead, Hyundai Europe couldn’t wait any longer and held a press conference today in Berlin to showcase the next-gen C-SUV.

Below you’ll see the first images of the revamped 2016 Hyundai Tucson debut which occurred today in Germany.

Rather than sleek and rounded, the new Tucson goes for a boxier, more muscular look dominated by the front hexagonal grille. Moving the A-pillar back gave a stretched look to the bonnet that looks fluid even from the side. Hyundai reports the interior underwent “extensive ergonomic testing” to deliver comfortable, generous cabin space.

The Tucson offers five powertrain options: 135-hp 1.6-liter gasoline, 176-hp 1.6-liter gasoline, 115-hp 1.7-liter diesel, 136-hp 2.0-liter diesel, or 184-hp 2.0-liter high-power diesel. Other notable features added to the Tucson are LED daytime running lights, smart-powered tailgate, Smart Parking Assist, a boosted navigation system, Autonomous Emergency Braking, and Lane Keeping Assist with a Speed Limit Information function.

“The all-new Tucson is a bold new car that represents another leap forward for Hyundai,” commented Tony Whitehorn, President & CEO of Hyundai Motor UK. “With a fantastic design and advanced technologies, it makes a strong statement about where the Hyundai brand is heading and provides a highly competitive vehicle in the important C-SUV segment.”

This pre-Geneva presentation of the redesigned Tucson comes on the heels of a teaser photo released by the automaker yesterday. In it, the 2016 Tucson was shrouded in a heavy blanket with only the front-left corner exposed–showing a headlight, fog lights/LED DRL cluster, and alloy wheels.

The retooled Tucson is meant to replace the current ix35 in Europe (the name which the Tucson had gone by in that region) and muster interest in the fuel cell SUV through heightened appeal and design changes. Hyundai hopes to bring the sales rates and reputation of the Tucson to the same level the million-selling Santa Fe has reached.

This Tucson, intended for Europe, will be built at the automaker’s Czech Republic facility. Its public debut it still set for the beginning of March at the Geneva Motor Show.
