The four-door sedan seats five comfortably. The 2013 version received the IIHS Top Safety Pick award—making us confident that the 2014 model could repeat the feat—and also received the USAA Preferred Best Value stamp. A Mitsubishi press release shows the Lancer’s commitment to safety, describing the air bags, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, and Tire Pressure Monitoring System as just a few of the standard safety features.

The 2014 model also sees upgrades in technology, as features like HD and SiriusXM radio come standard on some models and as options on others. The Lancer’s Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing Electronic Control (MIVEC) engine churns out 148 horsepower and helps the sporty Lancer achieve 34 mpg on the highway.
