Rick Hendrick Bids $1.2 Million on First 2017 Acura NSXThe more you make someone wait for something, the more eager they get. And Acura has made fans wait a very long time for the new NSX—which explains why a very eager Rick Hendrick ended up spending over one million dollars at Barrett-Jackson to get his hands on the very first production model of the 2017 Acura NSX, which comes to market this spring.

The Hendrick Motorsports owner and Hendrick Automotive Group founder ultimately bid $1.2 million for the first NSX, setting a new record for the highest-selling designated vehicle identification number (VIN) 001. It was for a good cause, though, as all proceeds from the auction are going to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation in North Carolina, and Camp Southern Ground in Georgia, a summer camp for disabled children created by musical artist Zac Brown.

“It was amazing to witness such generosity of spirit and passion for the new NSX,” said Acura Vice President and General Manager Jon Ikeda. “Mr. Hendrick will have the great satisfaction of owning and driving the very first next-generation NSX, and making a difference in the lives of thousands of children.”

Other customers will have to wait until February 25th to begin custom-ordering the 2017 Acura NSX at authorized NSX retailers. That date will also coincide with the launch of the NSX online vehicle configurator at Acura.com.
