High Point, North Carolina, is known as the furniture capital of the world. Downtown, you’ll see a strong focus on the furniture market, with stores and sculptures on display. The outskirts of the city have plenty of beautiful lakes, including Oak Hollow Lake, and traditional suburban homes. High Point University is also a beautiful, photogenic campus worth seeing during your visit.

Where to stop

There are a few must-see sites and restaurants for you to visit during your stay in High Point.

World’s Largest Chest of Drawers
As the furniture capital of the world, High Point is also home to the world’s largest chest of drawers. The dresser was built in 1926 and stands 36 feet high. The large dresser also features two socks hanging from its middle drawer to recognize the city’s hosiery industry.

High Point University
High Point University is a huge part of the High Point community. HPU is a private university with approximately 5,000 undergraduate students. The grounds themselves are extraordinary, with matching buildings, foliage and flowers, life-size statues of historical figures, and open grass lawns throughout the campus. HPU also has a larger-than-lifesize rocking chair encouraging you to “Dream Big” (and yes, you can climb up and sit in it for a photo-op). Stop by and stroll through campus, take photos with Gandhi and Rosa Parks, or catch a sports game (Go Panthers!).

Penny Path Café and Crêpe Shop
When you’re traveling, the small, locally owned restaurants are usually the best ones in town. Penny Path Café and Crêpe Shop sits quietly on a side street in downtown High Point and is a local favorite. You can get all different kind of crêpes at Penny Path, from sweet Nutella crêpes to savory pizza crêpes.

Kersey Valley
If you’re up for some adventure, Kersey Valley is the place to be. They have everything from laser tag and escape rooms to zip lines and a high ropes course. During the Halloween season, they have a popular haunted trail— Spookywoods — which was voted the #1 Scream Park in America by Haunt World Magazine.

Oak Hollow Marina
There are beautiful lakes scattered throughout the Piedmont Triad, including Oak Hollow Lake in High Point. The Oak Hollow Marina gives you access to the lake in a variety of ways. You can set up shop at the picnic tables at the marina and spend some time fishing, take a boat out on the water, or rent kayaks and paddle boards to enjoy the summer sun.
