So here’s something unusual: imagine being involved in a serious car accident and falling into a coma, only to wake up six days later with improved cognitive abilities up to and including the ability to speak French almost fluently. Now imagine feeling an overwhelming sense of disappointment because you are not Matthew McConaughey.

This was a problem that plagued Rory Curtis, 25, who was severely injured in an accident in Staffordshire, England in 2012.

The nature of Curtis’ accident was so severe that it took firefighters 40 minutes to free him from the wreckage of his vehicle, and he suffered a brain hemorrhage in the process that led to a six-day-long coma.

When Curtis awoke, he was struck by two things: he was able to speak French incredibly well despite having not used the language since school, and he was under the distinct impression that he was Academy Award-winner/Lincoln spokesman/weirdo Matthew McConaughey.

“In my head I thought I was Matthew McConaughey,” Rory told Metro. “When I went to the toilet I went to look in the mirror and I was shocked because I didn’t look like him, I didn’t know what I was looking at.”

Curtis says he eventually came back around once he realized that Matthew McConaughey was an entirely different human being, but he recalls lying in his hospital bed and being eager to get back to the business of making movie magic. If only someone had handed him the script for Surfer, Dude 2.

These days, Curtis says he’s feeling great and he is still quite skilled with the Language of Love. He no longer believes that he is Vilmer Slaughter, however.

If there’s one thing of which we can be sure with Rory Curtis’ story, it’s this: if it catches on and goes viral (which seems to be the case as the story has been picked up by a ton of outlets), expect yet another MKC ad parody. Because of course that’s going to happen
