2019 Hyundai Veloster N

Fans of the Hyundai brand are patiently awaiting the official launch of the 2019 Hyundai Veloster N. The Veloster N is the first vehicle in Hyundai’s United States N model lineup, a performance-focused vehicle range. Debuted at the 2018 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, the Veloster N will have a sporty, power-oriented design with its 275-horsepower turbocharged engine and six-speed manual transmission.

However, rumor has it Hyundai is working on a new option for the Veloster: a dual-clutch transmission (DCT). The brand recently announced the addition of a DCT option on the i30 N, and experts think it’s only a matter of time before that transmission extends into the rest of the N lineup.

Hyundai isn’t dishing any details just yet, only dropping subtle hints along the way. Eric Brandt, a journalist at The Drive, spoke with a representative at Hyundai about the possibility of a DCT on the Veloster. The representative confirmed our suspicions, that the Hyundai Veloster N will initially launch with a six-speed manual only. However, according to Brandt, the representative also said, “stay tuned for more news this summer.” Hint hint.

Adding a DCT to the Veloster N wouldn’t be a surprising move by Hyundai. The majority of modern-day cars are sold with automatic transmissions (about 97 percent, according to the Los Angeles Times and The Drive). While some auto enthusiasts prefer to have a more hands-on driving experience with a manual transmission, if Hyundai plans to sell the Veloster N to mass markets, it’s likely they’ll need to add another transmission option.
