Rumor: New Cadillac Crossover May Be Coming to Lansing Assembly
General Motors is moving production of the GMC Acadia from Lansing Delta Township Assembly to Tennessee, yet it remains steadfast that the facility will continue to operate at full capacity. While the ways and means that this will be the case have not yet been divulged, many are predicting that it will likely be a sorely-needed crossover for Cadillac.
“Cadillac is looking to add crossover products above the XT5 and below, and I suspect Lansing will be getting one of these products,” Alan Baum, principal of Baum and Associates, told Lansing State Journal.

The nomenclature of the XT5 suggests that it will ultimately be just one part of a multi-vehicle lineup, and Cadillac’s top men have confirmed that the XT5 is just one of four to come. It would make sense then that Cadillac is gearing up to bring the next crossover to its lineup at a time where sedan and coupe sales are sagging, likely bolstering sales of the XT5 and Escalade in the process.
“SUVs have never been as popular as they are now, and Cadillac is struggling to sell sedans recently,” said Karl Brauer, senior analyst at Kelley Blue Book. “It’s been a longtime rumor that Cadillac will offer an alternative to the Escalade.”
GM Vice President of Global Product Development Mark Reuss would not confirm what will ultimately replace the Acadia, but he did state that the company is “fully committed” to Lansing.
