Oh, so now they’re making the IDx happen? It must be Monday

Want to know which way the wind is blowing when it comes to a production-ready version of the Nissan IDx concept? At this point, it seems like the story changes on a monthly basis, but if the truth turns out to be somewhat close to the latest rumors, we wouldn’t have too much of an issue with it.

Here’s the current scoop: Nissan is moving forward on a model based upon the exciting IDx concept, only now it’s going to be called…are you ready for this?…the Silvia.

According to Motoring, Nissan is building an IDx-based RWD Silvia for a 2017 release in order to compete with the Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ.

Sources say that the 2017 Nissan Silvia will be offered with supercharged 1.2-liter and turbocharged 1.6-liter four cylinders and that it will wind up being smaller than the next-gen Nissan 370Z/Nissan Z.

Motoring’s source also says that Nissan will roll out an IDx v2.0 at the Tokyo Motor Show next year that will more closely mirror the final product, which is supposedly slated to hit showrooms for around $30,000.

Sure, it’s a fun thought, but when one combines the fact that Australian sources tend to be just a little bit less than reliable (particularly when you’re talking about a story put forth, as Carscoops points out, by the same guy who conjured up those 4-door FR-S rumors that wouldn’t die) with the observable fact that Nissan doesn’t seem to have any solid idea of what they’ll do with the IDx (if anything), it’s best that we don’t get our hopes up about a 2017 Silvia quite yet.
