Oh, you thought Ford was dropping news at the Detroit Auto Show? Might want to think again.

The suspicions and hopes of performance enthusiasts everywhere were confirmed Monday evening with the announcement of the all-new \Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, which Ford says is set to become the company’s most powerful street-legal production car ever built when it arrives in 2019. Output is said to be somewhere north of 700 horsepower, which means that the Shelby GT500 is a snake set forth to sink its fangs into Hellcats and Demons (and also Camaros, which are not animals and thus don’t worth quite as well for the whole animal metaphor thing).

In fact, there wasn’t much that was confirmed about the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 apart from the fact that it is coming. There were some digitally-rendered glimpses in the teaser video that you’ll find below, but no look at the real deal Holyfield. As for when we can expect to feast our eyes on the Mustang Shelby GT500 in full—well, Chicago is right around the corner, isn’t it?

More on the Mustang: See what the track-capable Shelby GT360 Mustang brings to the table

Ford didn’t really have much to say about the Mustang Shelby GT500 about front; its press release heralded it as “engineered to stand apart on roadways and race tracks, thanks to its new innovative track technologies, performance hardware, plus aggressive and functional track-tuned styling.” So, you know, be expecting a whole lot of that.

Ford’s had a solid Detroit showing in terms of performance vehicles, starting with the unexpected (but welcome) 2019 Edge ST up to yesterday’s reveal of the 2019 Mustang Bullitt. Does Ford have another ace up its sleeve for Detroit? Stay tuned.
