Schwarzenegger to Drive Pace Car in Sprint Cut Series
He’s known for his epic acting skills and his ability to govern an extremely liberal state as a Republican. And now, Arnold Schwarzenegger is ready to be known for his ability to drive a hydrogen-fueled pace car for one of the most ‘Murican sports known to man: NASCAR.
The former governator will take the wheel of the 2016 Toyota Mirai pace car to begin the Toyota/Save Mart 350 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race. The race will take place on Sunday, June 28th, at Sonoma Raceway in California. Schwarzenegger will drive ahead of 43 competing cars as they prepare to begin the 110-lap race. And while we might not immediately think of Arnold Schwarzenegger as a racing driver, it’s actual quite fitting that he’s popping his NASCAR cherry in the Toyota Mirai. While he was governor of the Golden State, Schwarzenegger pioneered a network of hydrogen refueling stations, which was the country’s first and is known as the Hydrogen Highway.
“I can’t wait to drive the pace car at Sonoma,” gushed Schwarzenegger. “It will be an honor to lead these fantastic athletes and champions around the raceway, and on top of it, I get to drive a car that is both powerful and green.”
This event will help the actor promote his upcoming movie, Terminator Genisys, which will be released on July 1st.
