One has to admire Ford’s determination to constantly improve the quality of its best-selling F-150 despite the possible inclination to rest on its laurels and coast along. With a number of upgrades and improvements already notched for the 2017 model year, the Blue Oval announced this month that its F-150 equipped with the all-new 3.5-liter EcoBoost and 10-speed automatic transmission will generate the best torque in its segment and even more horsepower.

The second-gen 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 has been rated at 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque, a full 10 horsepower and 50 lb-ft of torque better than the outgoing 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine. That torque figure enables Ford to lay claim to having the best torque for any vehicle in the segment, whether it be diesel- or petrol-powered. The 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6’s 470 lb-ft of torque, not for nothing, is also more than the torque generated by any V8 engine powering any half-ton pickup today.

“The 2017 Ford F-150 now delivers the best torque in the segment,” says Raj Nair, Ford executive vice president, Product Development, and chief technical officer. “This class-leading torque arrives with a transformative 10-speed automatic that improves nearly every aspect of F-150 performance.”

Adding to this impressive fact is the improved performance and acceleration that will come along with the F-150’s new 10-speed automatic transmission. This combination will also be a winner in terms of fuel efficiency thanks to the standardization of Auto Start-Stop for all F-150s with an EcoBoost engine.
