BMW has kept the majority of information on its seven-seat, luxury SUV under wraps. Code-named F17, the flagship vehicle’s development has been kept hidden since 2013. Recently, rumors about the vehicle’s details have been circulating, including from Spanish publication

The latest details on BMW’s X7 SUV concern the vehicle’s price, powertrain, and production.

Details on BMW’s Launch of 2018 X7 SUV in 2017

According to, the production model of the X7 will be unveiled in 2017 for the 2018 model year. As we already know, it will be the automaker’s first seven-seater SUV meant to compete with the Range Rover and other luxury, all-terrain sport utilities.

The report claims BMW will be producing 45,000 units of the X7 annually and will cost around 130,000 euros ($142,000). As that’s nearly double what its competitors are charging, the claim seems fishy.

Another assertion is that it will utilize the same suspension and running gear as the recently redesigned X5 and X6. A rear-wheel-drive option is a strong possibility but not a certainty–though xDrive is. A V8 engine option is all but confirmed, and speculation is that a V12 will be available also. As that option is offered in the 760i models, it seems plausible. Other powertrain options include hybrid and diesel. Inside, the SUV aspires to be the brand’s most luxurious vehicle–and the cabin will prove that.

With so many specific details being released about the 2018 BMW X7, could it be possible we’ll see a concept version of it at any upcoming auto shows? Many are expecting to see something at Shanghai next month, so stay tuned.
