Chevrolet is not just a hit in the United States, you know. In fact, Shanghai GM recently announced that it has sold 4 million Chevrolets in China as of January, a feat that it accomplished in just 10 years’ time.

The General Motors-SAIC joint venture first began offering Chevrolet vehicles in China in 2005. It took only five years for the Bowtie to move one million vehicles, and from there, milestones began to fall in rapid succession. In 2012, the two-million-Chevrolet milestone was passed, and the three-million mark was eclipsed in 2013.

Shanghai GM sold 717,007 Chevrolets in China in 2014, and with sales totaling 64,490 units in January, the reality of selling 4 million Chevrolets in China came to pass.

As it stands, Shanghai GM offers 12 different model lineups with a total of 53 variants in China. A number of vehicles made popular in the United States, such as Cruze, and Malibu, registered as quick favorites among younger buyers while models like the Captiva and Sail appealed to families looking for reliable people-haulers. Chevrolet vehicles are offered in 280 cities across the country, and 246 official Chevrolet dealers participate in e-commerce through My Chevy Online 4S stores.
