Shelby Brand Manager Provides Updates on Shelby GT350
Ford has had enthusiasts buzzing since it first revealed the new Shelby GT350 at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show. In the near five months since the unveiling, though, the automaker has been decidedly mum about the high-powered Mustang; we don’t know how powerful its flat-plane crankshaft V8 will be, when it will arrive, or how many Ford plans to build.
The closest thing we’re getting to an answer to those questions comes to us from Mustang6G, who reports that Shelby/Boss brand manager Jim Owens told those gathered at Texas World Speedway last week that the GT350 will have a redline of 8,250 RPM and should exceed 520 horsepower.
As for when we can expect to see the GT350 in showrooms, Owens says that it will arrive “earlier in the fourth quarter” of 2015, but notes that “we haven’t divulged the model year yet and there is a reason for that.”
As for how many Ford will build? Owens says, “it would be safe to say it would be somewhere between the Boss 302 number (3,250 units per model year) and the current GT500 number (around 5,700 units per model year), and I wouldn’t be surprised if the R might be akin to … the Leguna Seca version (750 units per model year).”
