The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the US Department of Energy (DOE) have identified the 2015 Spark EV as The Most Fuel Efficient Vehicle of 2014. This marks the second consecutive year that the Spark EV has received this distinction.

The 2015 Spark EV yields a combined rating of 119 MPGe, which beats out its closest competitors by a few miles per gallon, like the Fiat 500e and the Nissan LEAF, which manages 114 MPGe.

According to GM’s blog, Fast Lane, drivers save an estimated $150 a month on gasoline with the Spark EV. The electric Spark can be charged using a standard home outlet with a 120V cord, but for a faster charge time, owners have the option of installing a 240V charger. Chevy also likes to boast that the Spark EV is credited with bringing the SAE Combo DC Fast-Charge connector to the market.

The 2015 Spark EV uses a lithium-ion battery that is paired with an electric propulsion system, which is not to be underestimated. In fact, with this lineup, the all-electric Spark rockets from 0 to 60 in 7.2 seconds and boasts 327 lb-ft of torque.

And, to round off the award-winning Spark variant, the Spark EV was named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

So to recap, the Spark EV is safe, affordable to operate, convenient, powerful, and—with the EPA’s/DOE’s blessing as The Most Fuel Efficient Vehicle of 2014—incredibly green. Not a bad combination, eh?
