Specialist Robert Loria Earns New 2014 RAV4 Limited at NYIAS
The RAV4 was modified by Bussani Mobility to accommodate the Army Specialist’s mechanical hand
During the opening ceremonies of the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS), Toyota teamed up with the Wounded Warrior Project and donated a 2014 RAV4 Limited to United States Army Specialist Robert Loria of Port Jervis, New York.
Specialist Loria lost his left arm in February 2004 in a roadside bombing while serving in Iraq. Loria subsequently made headlines when he disclosed that the U.S. Army had confiscated his final paycheck and stated that he owed them a debt to the tune of $1,768.81 (the Army apologized and corrected almost immediately after his story became public).
The Bussani Mobility Team modified the RAV4 awarded to Specialist Loria to include a steering wheel knob that makes driving with a mechanical hand possible. Further, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo presented Loria with an honorary license plate bearing the letters “ROB PH” and indicating his status as a Purple Heart Award and Bronze Star Medal recipient.
“I’ve been blessed with family and friends to drive me to and from work and appointments,” Loria told Toyota. “I miss the freedom of getting myself where I need to be and want to be. This gift from Toyota is a game-changer for me.”
