Subcompacts have steadily found themselves on the outs in the United States, which has led to recent speculation that the bite-sized Chevy Spark could be the next GM vehicle to wind up on the chopping block. Such is not the case in Mexico, however, where Chevrolet introduced a new notchback version of the Beat subcompact in September to fulfill customer demands. This month, Chevrolet revealed its new Beat Activ, which adds on distinctively sporty aesthetic touches and a Soft-Ride suspension for smoother performance.

“Since arriving in Mexico in June 2017, the Chevrolet Beat has positioned itself as one of the [country’s] favorite cars,” said Pedro Ruiz, Director of Marketing of General Motors de Mexico. “In just the first quarter of this year, it had a 62 percent market share within its segment and by the end of April had deliveries of almost 21,000 units in the country. With this new version, in addition to completing the Beat portfolio, we seek to offer our customers novel options that can meet their needs without neglecting the great fuel efficiency that characterizes this vehicle.”

The Chevrolet Beat Activ is notably different from the conventional Beat for its black front and rear fascias, a sportier grille, and unique 14-inch wheels. On the inside, it sports a two-tone white/silver dashboard, 60/40 split-folding rear seats, and four-speaker audio system.

The major upgrade is the Soft-Ride suspension, which boosts ground clearance by 8 millimeters (0.31 inches). The Chevy Beat Activ is set to arrive at dealerships in Mexico on July 11.
