Simultaneously retro and modern, the Volkswagen I.D. Buzz concept will be making its commercial debut in the US, China, and Europe just five years from now (2022). According to Volkswagen, the all electric I.D. Buzz concept is set to satisfy the demands of consumers eager for a chance to drive the VW bus (perhaps again) as well as inspire young drivers to fall in love with the iconic legacy of this four-wheeled bus.

According to Volkswagen, the all-wheel drive I.D. Buzz concept can deliver drivers an estimated range of 300 miles with its 111 kWh battery while generating 369 horsepower, which is an additional 339 amount of horsepower than what consumers in America got from the 1950 VW bus. The sleek bus can accommodate eight people and gives drivers approximately 162.5 cubic feet of space for gear or cargo without the seats or with the seats folded down. Integrating a blast from the past feature, the I.D. Buzz concept sports a VW Beetle-inspired front trunk. The exterior of the I.D. Buzz concept features signature design details such as hexagonal segmented LED headlights, a light strip that encircles the vehicle, 22-inch wheels, the iconic front V design, and “near-zero body overhangs.”

“For me, the I.D. Buzz concept is the most beautiful and most exciting electric car in the world,” said Dr. Herbert Diess, Chairman of the Board of Management for the Volkswagen brand, in Pebble Beach, Calif. “Our goal is clear: we want to make the fully electric, fully connected car a bestseller around the world. The iconic car of the electric age must be a Volkswagen.”

Diess promises that the new electric vehicles Volkswagen are designing and pushing into production will give drivers EVs that go above and beyond what current EVs on the market offer at a budget-friendly price.
