Steve Millen and No. 75 Nissan 300ZX

Yesterday we showed you a video of legendary racer Steve Millen reminiscing about his 1994 victory at 24 Hours of Daytona, which he did while sitting very precariously on a tire. Today we have another clip (below), this one showing some of the highlights from last weekend’s Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion race, which Millen and his iconic No. 75 Nissan 300ZX twin turbo race car competed in.

Millen and the 800-horsepower No. 75 car were celebrating the 20th anniversary of their victory at the 1994 24 Hours of Le Mans. Millen retired from the sport in 1996 after a serious accident, and said he hasn’t done much racing since then. Of course, neither has the No. 75 Nissan 300ZX.

“We had a lot of success with this car. But, the car sat dormant for 20 years essentially,” said Millen. “So when we decided to come to this event here in Monterey we ran right through the car from front to stern. Mark Honsowetz rebuilt the engine and freshened that up for us. We put on new shock absorbers. We put on new AP Racing brakes. So we had to restore the car back and get it to where we could run it hard like we are doing this weekend.”

Millen was thrilled by his “anniversary present,” telling interviewers, “The cars are working great, and it is just so much fun to out there racing against other competitors.”
