Strangers Buy Commuter a Camry

Long commutes can be a real pain. According to various studies, commuting is associated with higher levels of anxiety, stress, and hostility, and can even negatively impair relationships and cognitive performance. The average American spends about 25 minutes commuting, but Justin Korva, who works at Taco Casa in Rockwall, Texas, spends a lot more time on his daily commute by walking three miles to work every day.

Though he didn’t have to worry about traffic, Korva would have to endure the heat, rain, and even hail common to Texas on the days when the weather simply didn’t look kindly upon those who walk to work.

Korva says he was working on bettering himself and on saving the money to buy a car. But thanks to local resident Andy Mitchell, he was able to get behind the driver’s seat much sooner than he expected. After giving Korva a ride one day, and discovering that he walks three miles to work every day, Mitchell and a group of friends secretly set up a donation box at a local restaurant and raised enough funds to buy him a $5,500 Toyota Camry—not a bad choice for a used car.

According to Fox 4, the group also collected enough money for a $500 gas card, a year of car insurance, and two years’ worth of oil changes. And of course, they recorded the whole thing—albeit in vertical video, but we’ll let it slide this one time. See it for yourself below!
