Subaru and Google Team Up for Google Expeditions
Subaru announced yesterday that it has partnered with Google for a project called Google Expeditions, which launched in May of this year. The goal of Google Expeditions is to allow teachers to take their students on virtual field trips, to locations like museums, landmarks, and even outer space. Subaru will step in as the official vehicle provider, as the Expedition Pioneer Program travels across six states—California, Connecticut, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, and Texas—and four other countries—Australia, Brazil, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom—to deliver Google Expedition Kits to schools. Judging by photos released from Subaru, the Outback will be among the vehicles used in the program.
The Expedition Pioneer Program launched this month. Subaru joins on as part of its Love Promise initiative. It’s a smart move for Subaru’s giving arm, which is more widely known for its contributions to the environment and pets. Education and community, however, are also important areas to which Subaru hopes to contribute.
“Subaru is proud to support Google in helping to bring rich, innovative and educational learning experiences to students around the globe,” remarked Alan Bethke, the vice president of marketing for Subaru of America. “We saw an opportunity to create excitement for adventure in the classroom, while lending our zero-landfill passions to help ensure that the planet’s wonders, like our National Parks, will remain for future generations.”
Not only will Subaru and Google be delivering the kits to schools in the aforementioned locations; those involved in the delivery will also be tasked with training teachers on using the technology. Subaru will also be contributing knowledge in building some of the expeditions, like zero-landfill manufacturing and the National Parks here in the US.
Other participating sponsors include Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, Alchemy VR (production company of documentarian David Attenborough), PBS, and Wildlife Conservation Society.
