Overall SUV sales are thriving, and Subaru is seeing that success with its Outback and Crosstrek models. Last month, Subaru saw a 7.2-percent year-over-year increase in sales, earning its best-ever May overall and for the Outback, plus a best-ever sales month for the Crosstrek.

Subaru sold a total of 60,146 vehicles last month — the first time May sales have ever exceeded 60,000 units. The brand’s highest-ever success in May brought its year-to-date sales to a grand total of 263,019 vehicles — a 4.1-percent increase from this time last year. This is also the 51st month in a row Subaru has exceeded 40,000 sales.

“For the first time ever our sales for the month of May exceeded 60,000 vehicles and it is a tribute to our retailers who continue to establish monthly sales records despite the extreme competitiveness of the market,” said Thomas J. Doll, Subaru of America’s president and CEO.

Of all Subaru models, the Crosstrek and Outback saw the greatest success last month. The 2018 Subaru Crosstrek had its best sales month in its history with a total of 14,387 units sold. “Sales of our all-new 2018 Crosstrek were up an impressive 74.4 percent in May and it enjoyed its best month ever,” said Jeff Walters, Subaru’s senior vice president of sales. “2019 model year vehicles will start arriving in June and we expect that momentum to continue.” The 2018 Subaru Outback also earned its best-ever May sales last month with 16,702 units sold — a 9.9-percent increase from May 2017. The success of the Crosstrek and Outback are driving home the notion that SUVs are here to stay.

Subaru dealerships are waiting for the arrival of the all-new 2019 Subaru Ascent, a three-row SUV fit for up to seven passengers. This is the largest vehicle in Subaru’s lineup, catering to an entirely new market of buyers. “With positive press and consumer reaction to the all-new three-row Ascent SUV, we expect even stronger demand as we enter the summer months,” said Thomas J. Doll.
