For the first time ever, Japanese automotive manufacturer Subaru has been named Best Overall Brand by Kelley Blue Book in its annual Brand Image Awards.

Subaru was able to capture this prestigious award due to its success in Kelley Blue Book’s Brand Watch study. This study calculated the input from 12,000 car shoppers that researched new and used vehicles via KBB.com. The 12 factors that Subaru scored the highest in were affordability, safety and technology, ruggedness, driving comfort, exterior styling, durability/reliability, driving performance, prestige/sophistication, interior layout, fuel efficiency, and reputation.

The Kelley Blue Book Brand Image Awards are well-known for highlighting notable achievements from automakers, which have cultivated and nurtured strong brand awareness and loyalty by producing distinctive automobiles for the car-buying public. Besides winning the honor for Best Overall Brand for the first time in its history, Subaru also took home Best Performance Brand and Most Trusted Brand honors for the second-consecutive year.

“We are extremely proud to receive these three distinguished 2016 Kelley Blue Book Brand Image Awards,” said Thomas J. Doll, president and chief operating officer, Subaru of America, Inc. “This recognition is a testament to our commitment to producing and providing top quality vehicles with safety, reliability and durability in mind.”

Subaru vehicles are known for coming standard with its symmetrical all-wheel drive system, with the only exception being the BRZ coupe. The success of the Forester and Outback models were two additional reasons why Subaru did so well in this year’s Brand Image Awards

It should be noted that KBB.com calculated Subaru’s awards among non-luxury shoppers. Lexus took the honors for Best Overall Luxury Brand.
