It’s no secret in the world of automotive philanthropy that Subaru is among the most involved, especially as far as Mother Nature is concerned. Its giving arm extends to several pet and animal causes, as well as other environmental concerns. Two of its latest causes include its continued dedication to the National Parks, as well as work with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Subaru is partnering with Chimani to develop mobile app travel guides for our national parks

Subaru Gives Back to the National Park Service

The National Park Service celebrates its centennial this year. Subaru has already done a fair amount to help celebrate the service’s 100th birthday, including sharing zero landfill knowledge with the parks, presenting the National Parks Adventure film that hit IMAX® theaters in February and sponsoring A Walk in the Park with David Vassar, and launching student activities for virtual field trips to our nation’s national parks. Subaru’s latest move has the automaker pairing with Chimani, an app creator, to design 59 mobile app travel guides, one for each of the US’s 59 iconic national parks.

The benefits of mobile app travel guides are many. First, it reduces paper waste on printed out guides. Second, it is more user-friendly and interactive for visitors to the park. Third, it is dynamic, offering real-time updates, something a paper guide cannot deliver.

“We began developing the national park apps in 2010 to address the need for better access to park information, while also understanding the cellular connectivity issue most parks face,” explained Kerry Gallivan, CEO and cofounder of Chimani. “Each of our national park apps includes curated, original content covering hiking trails and unique points of interest, park facilities, and more; along with GPS-enabled maps that work without a cell or Wi-Fi connection.”

Galliban added, “We’re extremely excited to release the remaining national park apps. Our tremendous partners at Subaru have led the way for waste reduction in parks, and by replacing paper travel guides, Chimani will help them accomplish this goal.”

Leukemia and Lymphoma Society - Subaru - Blanket

As part of the Subaru Loves to Care month, Subaru dealers will be sending blankets and messages of hope to cancer patients undergoing treatment

Subaru Gives Back to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

In addition to benefiting the National Park Service, Subaru is also working with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) during the month of June, which Subaru has deemed “Subaru Loves to Care” month. During this month, nearly 400 Subaru dealerships will work in conjunction with LLS to offer blankets and messages of hope to those suffering from leukemia or lymphoma and currently undergoing treatment at hospitals or treatment centers in the area. If you visit a Subaru dealership this month, you’ll be given the opportunity to design a personalized message of hope for such patients. For doing so, you’ll receive a Subaru and LLS awareness bracelet.

It is estimated that by the month’s end, Subaru will have donated more than 30,000 blankets and thousands more messages of hope to patients undergoing treatment for their cancers.
