With May just a few days behind us, Subaru is already finished analyzing its monthly performance. According to the Japanese automaker’s recent US sales analysis, Subaru moved a total of 49,561 vehicles, marking a 12.2% gain over May of 2014. This is also remarkably close to 50,000, an important benchmark, as for the last 15 months (May included), Subaru has been at 40,000 units or above. It looks like the automaker is poised to enter the 50,000 monthly arena, maybe even this June.

So far this year, Subaru has sold a whopping 228,083 vehicles in the United States. That’s 16% more than Subaru sold in the same time period in 2014.

Sales of the Subaru Legacy were up a whopping 63.8%, with 5,000 units moved. Sales of the XV Crosstrek also improved remarkably (36.3%) to 7,876. As usual, the Forester and the Outback were the top sellers for the brand, at 15,157 and 12,384 respectively.

“We are pleased to see our sales growth continue and surpass the records we set last year,” commented Thomas J. Doll, president and chief operating officer for Subaru of America. “Our strong sales are a result of Subaru owner loyalty and buyers coming to the brand for the first time. It is a winning combination that will continue to drive sales.”

Jeff Walters, senior vice president of sales, added, “The Outback was the fourth most-shopped model in the US last month and our shopping levels in general are at their highest levels ever. At our current pace, with the steadfast support of our retailers, selling more than 540,000 vehicles in 2015 is certainly within reach.”

The only model significantly down was the BRZ, at -28.9%; 606 models were sold compared to May 2014’s 852 units. The WRX and Impreza saw very little change, just down 2.1% and 0.3%, respectively.
