The Subaru Share the Love campaign launches this month. Subaru hopes to donate more than $15 million to local and national charities.

The Subaru Share the Love event marks its eighth year this November, when it launches on November 19th. The philanthropic program will continue on to January 2, 2016. During this time, Subaru will donate $250 for every new Subaru vehicle sold or leased. Where does that $250 go? It’s up to the buyer or lessee.

Customers will be able to choose among four national charities: ASPCA®, Make-A-Wish®, Meals on Wheels America®, and the National Park Foundation, which is no surprise, given Subaru’s partnership with the foundation. If a customer would instead like that $250 to go toward a more localized cause, he or she can select a local charity designated by the Subaru dealership from which the car is purchased or leased.

Over the last seven years, Subaru has donated more than a staggering $50 million through the Share the Love event. The Japanese automaker hopes to donate at least $15 million for the 2015 season, taking its grand total to $65 million in donations.

What do the donations to the national charities actually do? Quite a bit.

  • Subaru Share the Love donations to the ASPCA have funded the rescue, transport, treatment, and adoption of more than 10,000 animals in need here in the United States. Subaru’s involvement in animal welfare is well-known and important.
  • Donations to Make-A-Wish have helped nearly 900 children suffering from life-threatening illnesses receive their special wishes.
  • Meals on Wheels America has benefited from the Share the Love program immensely, with almost 1.25 million meals delivered to seniors in the last seven years.
  • The National Park Foundation will celebrate its centennial next year. Donations to the foundation will support programs and projects geared toward saving and maintaining more than 90 national parks.
