Subaru’s David Higgins Crushes Competition at 2015 Rally in the 100 Acre Wood
After leading the 2015 Subaru WRX STI Rally Car to a successful victory at the Sno*Drift Rally in its debut competition, David Higgins continued his streak when he took first at the 2015 Rally in the 100 Acre Wood over the weekend with co-driver, Craig Drew.
Vehicle Research: 2015 Subaru WRX STI Sedan Trims and Features
The Rally in the 100 Acre Wood is affectionately named after the very forest in which Winnie the Pooh lives, though it has much more treacherous dangers than heffalumps and woozles. The snow and ice native to Missouri in the winter mixes in with gravel roads for an incredibly difficult course for all drivers. Luckily, Higgins and Drew were able to rely on Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, which allowed them to win all but one stage.
“These were some of the toughest conditions I’ve ever driven on,” Higgins recounted at the podium. “There was a mix of everything. At a snow rally you at least know you are dealing with ice or snow, but here we also had gravel, frozen gravel, icy gravel and everything in between to go with the snow. Our 2015 Subaru WRX STI was perfect again and Craig did a fantastic job on the notes. This was a huge challenge.”
Higgins’ victory successfully blocked Ken Block (ha) from yet another victory at 100 Acre Wood. Block had won seven out of eight of the previous competitions there.
This is the second consecutive win for Subaru in the 2015 Rally America Championship. In total, there will be eight events this season. The competition at the Oregon Trail Rally kicks off the remaining six on April 24th – 26th.
