Ford reported April sales totaling 100,800 vehicles in its traditional Euro 20 markets (Austria, Belgium, Britain, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Romania, Sweden, and Switzerland), an 11% year-over-year decline. Passenger vehicle sales were down 13% at 76,000 units, and commercial vehicle sales fell 5% at 24,800 units.

Commercial market share was up 0.2 percentage points at 12.4%, but passenger sales were down 0.5 percentage points at 6.4% market share, and overall market share was down 0.3 percentage points at 7.3%.

Still, there were bright spots to note. SUV sales, in particular, were up 17% at 17,300 units. Kuga sales were up 1,400 units year-over-year at 11,200 units, and Edge sales totaled 1,300 units.

“The strength of our SUV lineup was on full display in April as customers flocked to the complete range made up of Kuga, EcoSport and Edge. ST Line models sold especially well, and more than one in five Edge SUVs sold is a Vignale. SUV sales supported the growth of our market share in three of our largest European markets by sales volume—Germany, Turkey, and France.”

Market share in Germany was up to 7.8%, up to 12.4% in Turkey, and up to 4.5 % in France. Britain was the biggest market by share at 12.9% (down 1.3 points year-over-year), followed by Turkey, Hungary (11%), Ireland (10.6%), and Romania (9.3%).

In terms of volume, Germany led the way at 24,800 units in total, followed by 23,100 units in Britain, 12,700 units in Italy, 9,600 units in Turkey, and 9,500 units in France.
