GM Launching Career RE-Entry Internship Program for Female Engineers

General Motors this past week announced a new expansion for its Take 2 career reentry program that will see it opened up to candidates in Canada.

Originally launched at the start of 2016, Take 2 was conceived as an opportunity for female engineers and experts in other automotive fields who have been out of the workforce for at least two years to get their foot back in the door with a 12-week internship.

Among the success stories from the inaugural group is that of Wendy Kwiecinski, a safety forensic engineer who took the opportunity provided by Take 2 to reacclimate herself with the industry after taking nearly two decades away to homeschool her children.

“Through the support of the other participants who had also stepped away for a while, the Take 2 program helped me realize that the skills I acquired during my break, while different, are just as useful as those I would have developed had I remained in the workforce,” said Kwiecinski.

The fall 2017 session of the Take 2 program, the fourth since launch, will be open to applicants from Canada for the first time in the initiative’s history. The fall 2017 session also marks the first time that the field is open to marketing professionals; other areas of expertise eligible for Take 2 include customer care, engineering, finance, IT, and manufacturing.

Take 2 is open for applications starting May 1st; successful applicants will be paid for their 12-week internship, which will begin in September and conclude in December.
