National Mayor’s Challenge for Water ConservationWith the possibility of up to 36 states throughout America facing significant water shortages this summer, the Wyland Foundation and Toyota have teamed up once again for the third annual National Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation.

Mayors representing cities such as Los Angeles, Portland, Denver, Orlando, and Honolulu encourage citizens to visit MyWaterPledge.com and commit to doing everything they can to reduce water and energy usage. At the conclusion of April, 300 eco-friendly prizes will be awarded, including a Toyota Prius Plug-in hybrid vehicle.

National Mayor’s Challenge for Water ConservationAdditionally, teachers and parents are encouraged to extend the National Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation initiative to children by directing them to www.MyWaterPledge.com/Students, where they will find a message from EPA Administrator, Gina McCarthy, and animated PSAs. Teachers will find lesson plans to use in the classroom, and all educators who make the pledge on behalf of their classrooms will be entered into a drawing for $500 in classroom supplies.

“It is vital we recognize that children will be the future decision-makers of how we use our resources,” Wyland, artist, conservationist, and president of the Wyland Foundation, told Toyota’s press room. “Whether it is drought conditions in the West or high costs of energy related to water usage in the East, saving water has become one of the most talked-about issues facing the nation today.”
