Team Honda Week of Service Raises $75,000 for Charity
Today Honda announced that approximately 16,000 volunteers participated in last month’s inaugural Honda Week of Service, engaging in volunteer work in communities throughout North America.
One of the community organizations closest to Honda’s heart (or at least, its Marysville headquarters) was Agape Distribution, a non-profit food bank located in Sidney, Ohio. Honda volunteers helped out by painting the exterior of the Agape store, where those in need can shop for free groceries.
“When people come down here, they’re really beat down by life. They come in and get 95 pounds of free groceries, and it brings hope to them,” said Agape Distribution CEO John Geissler. “I dreamed about getting this building painted, so our customers don’t look like they’re going to a food pantry, they look like they’re going to a grocery store. It’s everything to me.”
Agape was just one of the hundreds of organizations throughout North America that people volunteered their time and effort to serve. During the Honda Week of Service, which ran from June 10 to 19th, Honda associates and volunteers from the company’s dealers and suppliers took part in 425 coordinated group volunteer activities across 41 states, and parts of Canada and Mexico, as well.
According to Honda, at the end of the week, volunteers had provided 60,000 canned goods and meals, fed 3,000 families, donated 600 pints of blood, helped or adopted 200 animals, and raised approximately $75,000 in individual charitable donations, among other accomplishments.
Honda captured some of week’s highlights for this recently released video:
“We are so thankful to our associates and business partners who took time out to help improve the lives of people in the communities where we live and work,” said Honda executive Rick Schostek. “This week was an example of what can happen when a team of people come together to help their neighbors.”
