Texas Writers Deem Volvo XC60 an Award-Worthy SUV
The title of 2018 SUV of Texas has been bestowed upon the all-new Volvo XC60 by members of the Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA) at the TAWA Texas Truck Rodeo.
At the two-day intensive Rodeo, 60 vehicles endured 1,400 test drives as well as the scrutiny of over 70 automotive writers. In addition to the 2018 SUV of Texas distinction, the Volvo XC60 also earned recognition for Best Powertrain and Best Connectivity.
“There should be little doubt that Volvo’s XC60 has set the bar in the segment and deserves a spot on buyer’s shortlist,” said Nic Phillips, president of the Texas Auto Writers Association. “Following the multiple accolades bestowed upon the full-size XC90 over the past two Texas Truck Rodeos, our journalists have been equally, if not more so impressed by Volvo’s all-new mid-size XC60. The balance of performance and efficiency in the T8’s Twin Engine plug-in hybrid powertrain, and for the third time Volvo’s Sensus Connect, factored into the total package the XC60 embodies as the 2018 SUV of Texas.”
The Volvo XC60 features a standard 2.0-liter turbocharged engine mated to an eight-speed Geartronic™ automatic transmission that generates 250 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. A panoramic sunroof, LED headlights, power driver seat with memory, rear park assist camera, smartphone integration, and leather upholstery are also standard features.
“The XC60 T8 is the only plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) in its segment. It has as much power as a Porsche Macan Turbo and better EPA numbers than a Prius C,” according to Volvo who notes that the XC60 is the automaker’s most well-received and popular vehicle in its lineup.
The 2018 Volvo XC60 also features an impressive list of standard safety and driver assistance technologies such as Run Off Road Mitigation, WHIPS™ Whiplash Protection System, City Safety Collision Avoidance Technology, Hill Start Assist, Rear Collision Warning, Lane Keeping Aid, Oncoming Lane Mitigation, and Automatic Braking After Collision.
