How would you feel about driving a Cadillac truck? Okay, if this sounds like an appealing prospect, let’s be a bit more specific: how would you feel about driving a Cadillac truck that is ostensibly a fancier El Camino?

Yes? Yes. So then you’ll want to check out this video from the good folks at /Drive:

What you see here is one of 204 1976 Cadillac Mirages—a customized 1976 Coupe DeVille mated to a pickup truck bed. It’s an absolutely astonishing piece that makes one wonder why Cadillac never truly attempted a pickup all its own.

It’s powered by an 8.2-liter V8 that cranks out an underwhelming 200 horsepower and an impressive 400 lb-ft of torque, which means it’s an adequate enough ride for some showing off but probably not terribly well suited for heavy-duty hauling. Which, ya know, is fine, because it’s a fair bet that not everyone who buys a pickup these days buys it for trucky purposes.

Will Cadillac make something this awesome somewhere down the line? One can only hope. Maybe they’ll make it after they get around to making that crossover already.
