Dodge is no stranger to the practice of partnering up with Street & Racing Technology, or SRT for short. Indeed, Dodge and SRT’s past collaborations have produced some of the most iconic performance models in Dodge’s fleet, such as the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. Once again, this long-established association between Dodge and SRT will result in one of the most powerful vehicles in the industry.

The 2018 Dodge Durango SRT is set to debut at the Chicago Auto Show.

The heart of the brand new Durango model will be a 392 cubic inch HEMI V-8 engine. Utilizing this powerful engine model, the 2018 Dodge Durango SRT can produce up to 475 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. This makes the Durango SRT the most powerful three-row SUV in its class.

In addition to being the most powerful three-row SUV, the Durango SRT will also claim the title of fastest three-row SUV. According to Dodge, the 2018 Durango SRT can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds, a speed certified by the National Hot Rod Association.

The powerful engine under the hood of the Durango SRT will also provide the vehicle with a towing capability of 8,600 pounds, another best-in-class achievement for the Durango SRT. The engine will be mated with a TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission. Completing the powertrain system for the Durango will be a driver-oriented electronic T-shifter and a brand new SRT seven-mode drive system, both of which allow for precise handling and capabilities for drivers.

The SRT drive system is made up of seven different driving modes, including

  • Auto: Sets suspension and steering to comfort setting.
  • Sport: Delivers increased vehicle performance by tightening suspension.
  • Track: Delivers maximum performance by increasing shift speed by 50%.
  • Snow: Designed for winter weather driving. Sets transmission to second gear during launches.
  • Tow: Utilizes full stability control and activates the Active Noise Cancelation system.
  • Valet: Locks out access to first gear and steering wheel paddle shifters.
  • ECO: Maximizes fuel economy.

“The new 2018 Dodge Durango SRT is America’s fastest, most powerful and most capable three-row SUV,” states Tim Kuniskis, Head of Passenger Cars Brands, Dodge, SRT, Chrysler and FIAT for FCA North America. “This is what you get, when you take everything great about the Durango and combine it with the performance of the Charger SRT: a 12-second quarter mile, toy-hauling, three-row muscle car.”

Dodge recently showcased the 2018 Dodge Durango SRT in a promotional video, which can be viewed below:

To better match its new commitment to performance, the exterior of the Dodge Durango has been redesigned with a wider body and a hood equipped with a functional cold-air duct and heat extractors, designed to cool the engine. Also added to the vehicle’s exterior are the 20-inch “Goliath” five-spoke wheels, paired with Pirelli Scorpion Verde all-season tires.

Inside the cabin of the 2018 Dodge Durango SRT, drivers will find the iconic SRT flat-bottom steering wheel with paddle shifters. Drivers will also have access to a redesigned 7-inch, thin-film transistor customizable digital instrument gauge cluster.
