2018 Nisan 370Z coupe overview details specs features trims price costThe Nissan 370Z is a powerful little car at a very affordable price, but it has not had any major updates since it was released in the 2009 model year. For a few months now, rumors have been swirling that the model might be discontinued and that Nissan would focus more of its efforts on the Nissan GT-R and the rest of its more popular lineup. Something Newer: Learn all about Nissan Intelligent Mobility

Automotive News got the scoop from Nissan’s chief planning officer Philippe Klein while at the North American International Auto Show. He said that they were working on a successor to the current generation, but there is no indication as to when that update could come. The Nissan officer confirmed our thought process when he also stated that, while Nissan wants to keep the Z model around, its market around the world is quickly shrinking as drivers want to buy SUVs and crossovers.

Klein acknowledged that there is still a fanbase for the Z car, but he also expressed that revamping the current model will be difficult thanks to new regulations. The 370Z relies on being lightweight and affordable, but the government-required safety features are weighing it down.

Something Bigger: Check out the Nissan Titan XD

So if you’re looking for someone to blame for the lack of a new Nissan Z sports car, you can start with lower gas prices driving the market to larger cars and the government wanting us all to be safe on the road.

We all hope that Nissan can build an even better Z vehicle in the future. For now, we’ll just sit here and wait patiently.
