When it rains accolades, it pours. Just ask Mitsubishi, which had its 2015 Outlander, Outlander Sport, and Lancer (the latter not including Evolution and Ralliart models) named Top Safety Picks by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

Even better: thanks to the availability of Forward Collision Mitigation (FCM) technology, the Outlander was named a Top Safety Pick+. The additional distinction is only awarded to vehicles that prove themselves worthy in terms of front crash prevention, putting the 2015 Outlander in a class occupied by very few vehicles available on the market today.

“Thanks to our advanced high-tech engineering and safety features, the Mitsubishi Lancer, Outlander and Outlander Sport have consistently achieved high IIHS safety ratings,” said Don Swearingen, Executive Vice President of MMNA. “The Mitsubishi RISE safety body construction system is the perfect example of this kind of technology. In the event of an accident, energy is absorbed and deflected away from the occupant cell, which enhances passenger protection.”

The Outlander Sport and Lancer simultaneously proved their safety and longevity with the Top Safety Pick ratings. Features including Active Stability Control, Traction Control Logic, Tire Pressure Monitoring System, and ABS with Electronic brake-force Distribution and Brake Assist enabled the Outlander Sport to earn its fourth consecutive Top Safety Pick and the Lancer to earn an impressive seventh straight award.
