Three of Toyota’s 2014 vehicles—the Corolla, Prius c, and Tacoma—took home top honors in their respective segments in this year’s Kelley Blue Book 5-Year Cost to Own Awards. Let’s have a look at the winners!

2014 Toyota Corolla – Best Compact Car

2014 Toyota Corolla

The 2014 Toyota Corolla was named the Best Compact car for 2014.

The 2014 Toyota Corolla was named Best Compact Car for a superlative combination of low starting price, maintenance, and repair costs and a high resale value. The Corolla boasts an MSRP that starts as low as $17,500 and maxes out around $24,000 at the highest trim level, and an Eco model that can achieve up to 42 miles per gallon highway.

2014 Toyota Prius c – Best Hybrid/Alternative Energy Car

KBB praises the Prius c for “value, versatility, and mileage-maxing potential,” highlighting a less-than-$20,000 starting price, four diverse trim grades, and the potential for 53 mpg city/46 mpg highway. Perhaps most impressive about the 2014 Prius c’s Best Hybrid/Alternative Energy Car victory is the fact that it had to beat out the rest of the Prius family (Prius, Prius v, and Prius Plug-in) in order to do so.

2014 Toyota Tacoma – Best Mid-Size Pickup Truck

Granted, we know well that the mid-size segment is pretty depleted. How depleted, you ask? So depleted that the Tacoma beat out the Nissan Frontier for the title of Best Mid-Size Pickup Truck. And that’s it. There were no other eligible contenders for the award, making KBB’s study rather easy. Of course, we anticipate that the Tacoma will have no choice but to step up its game next year when the Colorado and Canyon make their return to the segment (and as Nissan contemplates making a diesel version of the Frontier).
