The 2006 Cadillac DTS

The 2006 Cadillac DTS was the replacement model for the iconic DeVille sedan, which was responsible for more than half of Cadillac’s overall sales for the better part of 20 years. The 2006 DTS was a front-wheel drive sedan that was available in four trim levels: Luxury I, Luxury II, Luxury III, and Performance. Prior to becoming the DeVille’s replacement, the DTS used to be the highest level trim available for the popular DeVille. The 2006 DTS was different from the DeVille because it came with redesigned front and rear fascias, and featured a distinctive interior, among other changes. The ‘06 DTS carried a starting MSRP of $41,195.

Under the Hood

The 2006 Cadillac DTS came standard with a Northstar 4.6-liter V8 engine good for 275 horsepower and 292 lb-ft of torque. That motor was matched by a four-speed automatic transmission. The Performance model packed an even more powerful version of the 4.6-liter V8 that was rated at 291 horsepower and 286 lb-ft of torque. Each trim level of the 2006 Cadillac DTS featured four-wheel independent suspension.

Styling and Design

The 2006 Cadillac DTS was a four-door luxury sedan that came standard with 17-inch alloy wheels, front fog lights, and a dual exhaust system. A power moonroof was an optional feature and the front of the vehicle was highlighted by an eggcrate grille design with wreath-and-crest badging. The rear of the sedan featured LED taillamps and a new deck lid. Exterior color options included Black Raven, Titanium, Light Platinum, Blue Chip, and Green Silk.

Cabin

The 2006 Cadillac DTS could provide seating for up to six passengers when properly equipped, and was loaded with a variety of advanced technological features. Standard luxury equipment inside the DTS included air conditioning, leather upholstery, front bucket seats, trip computer, and an eight speaker sound system with AM/FM radio and CD player. The Luxury II model and above also included heated front and back seats. The 2006 DTS offered 18.8 cubic inches of cargo room with all of the seats folded upwards.

Security and Protection

The 2006 Cadillac DTS came with six standard air bags, ABS brakes, and a panic alarm. The 2006 DTS also featured the StabiliTrack stability and traction control system, which could apply the vehicle’s brakes if onboard sensors decided the vehicle was deviating from the driver’s chosen path.

Fuel Economy

The fuel efficiency of the 2006 Cadillac DTS depended on which engine option was inside the vehicle. With the standard V8, the 2006 DTS yielded an EPA-estimated 15 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. Consumers who went with the more powerful 291-horsepower V8, were rewarded with fuel mileage of 15 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway. The 2006 DTS came standard with an 18 gallon fuel tank.
